Biography

Michael A. Gehl is a partner with Foley & Lardner LLP. He is a member of the firm's Commercial Transactions & Business Counseling Practice. His areas of practice encompass a broad range of business and financial matters, including formation of business entities, buy/sell agreements, employment agreements and executive compensation, aircraft transactions and regulatory compliance, commercial contracts, financing transactions, joint ventures, business combinations, shareholder disputes, and business succession planning. His aircraft-related practice includes representing clients in the sale and purchase of new and used aircraft, counseling regarding aircraft ownership structures, and assisting businesses and individuals in entering and exiting fractional ownership programs. Mr. Gehl focuses his practice on privately owned companies, including manufacturing, distribution and professional services firms. He has chaired the firm's former Private Business Group.

Mr. Gehl is a member of the State Bar of Wisconsin. He received his bachelor's degree, magna cum laude, from Dartmouth College in 1969, and his J.D. degree, cum laude, in 1974 from the University of Wisconsin, where he was elected to membership in the Order of the Coif.

Mr. Gehl has lectured and published articles on various topics, including business succession planning, shareholder buy-sell agreements, equity incentives for employees of privately owned businesses, limited liability companies, the Wisconsin Marital Property Law and the Wisconsin Close Corporation Law.
