Michael brings a science and research background to his practice in patent preparation and prosecution, preparation of validity and infringement opinions and litigation matters. His scientific experience spans the range of biological and biomedical sciences, including biochemistry, virology, genetics, transgenic plants and animals, plant biology and biochemistry, pharmacognosy, biophysics, bioinformatics and molecular modeling.
Prior to law school, Michael worked with a startup biotech company in Ann Arbor, Mich., developing large-scale avian protein expression systems. At the University of Michigan Office of Technology Transfer, he advised startup companies on issues including FDA law, medical device approval requirements, and laboratory and computer network design.
Michael's Ph.D. dissertation research concerned the replication, assembly and structure of a plant-infecting RNA virus in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
