Understanding the history of traditional energy and the complexities of investing in new energy sources, Michael Stosser helps clients successfully navigate the multifaceted business of the energy industry. With more than 34 years of experience, Michael guides clients in the development and finance of renewable and alternative energy projects and clean tech. He also represents traditional energy-natural gas, oil and power-clients in negotiations and transactions, including export matters, mergers, acquisitions and arbitrations. Michael's broad experience-in both the public and private sectors-makes him uniquely qualified to represent clients in state and regulatory matters, before Congress and in the development of energy legislation.
Michael brings the keen analysis and insight of an investment banker to his practice. As Senior Vice President in banking and also General Counsel for Ardour Capital Investments, LLC, an investment bank focused on the renewable energy sector, Michael worked with clean tech companies and projects, including wind, solar, biofuels, fuel cells and other distributed generation and energy storage, green buildings, reusable plastics, biomass, geothermal and coal gasification.
Michael began his law career at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), where he served in staff positions and then as Assistant General Counsel for Rulemaking and Environmental Law. Building on this insider's working knowledge of government regulation, he has handled regulatory issues and represented clients in the development, construction and sale of cogeneration and other power generation projects; represented natural gas pipelines and electrical utilities in matters before federal and state regulatory agencies; and represented clients before Congress.
Michael also served as co-chair of the energy practice at Heller Ehrman LLP and was founding partner and managing partner of the firm's Washington, D.C., office.
