About this office:
Mike Vacchio has a solid background in general commercial litigation and trial work. Mike's practice focuses on environmental litigation, both private party and government enforcement matters (administrative, civil and criminal), as well as internal company investigations, and the attendant external follow up proceedings such as Grand Jury investigations and criminal and civil enforcement actions in all types of business contexts. Prior to opening his own practice in August 2000, Mike, through two firm mergers, spent a combined total of 17 years with Hahn & Cazier (1983-1985), Hahn, Cazier & Smaltz (1985-1987) and Morgan, Lewis & Bockius (1987-2000).
Mike has substantial experience in environmental and workplace exposure matters, as well as insider trading and securities/commodities fraud cases. Mike has represented a publicly traded aerospace company and a geothermal energy producer in federal and state investigations and prosecutions for the alleged illegal storage, transportation and disposal of hazardous wastes (rocket fuel and geothermal filters). He represented a secondary smelter metals recycling facility in a criminal prosecution charging multiple counts of workplace exposure violations. Mike also has represented various commercial transportation entities in criminal oil spill prosecutions and similar Hazmat transportation matters. Recently he represented a Fortune 500 paper recycling company in a grand jury investigation and successfully avoided indictment in a Clean Water Act case involving the illegal dumping of more than 2,500 tons of waste in protected wetlands. Mike also represented a satellite communications company, and its president, in a DIS security clearance investigation regarding alleged disclosures of classified information to the Chinese. Mike's securities experience includes assisting in the representation of the late Don Karcher, and his wife, Dolly, in the Karcher insider trading proceedings.
