Michael E. Delehunt

Michael Delehunt is chair of the litigation practice in Northern California and is located in Foley's San Francisco office.

Mr. Delehunt's practice focuses on class action litigation involving clients in the personal fitness and retail sectors, health care industry, and real estate development and management fields. His practice includes defense of consumer litigation and litigation of unfair competition, contract and business tort actions and actions under the Americans with Disabilities Act and California's Proposition 65. Mr. Delehunt also counsels clients regarding consumer privacy issues, including the Song-Beverly Credit Card Act and consumer protection statutes. Mr. Delehunt represents real property owners and developers in land use litigation and entitlement matters.

With substantial trial and litigation experience in state and federal courts, Mr. Delehunt has handled significant cases brought under California Business & Professions Code §17200, the California Consumer Legal Remedies Act, the California Health Studio Services Act, and other consumer and trade regulation statues. He also is involved in substantial cases involving the real estate industry and real property development. Mr. Delehunt was named a 2005 "Super Lawyer" by the publishers of San Francisco Magazine.

A native San Franciscan, Mr. Delehunt earned his B.A. in 1970 from St. Mary's College of California. He graduated from the University of California Hastings College of Law (J.D. 1976) after active duty in the United States Army and participation in reserve training.

Mr. Delehunt is a member of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers, the Association of Defense Counsel, the Real Estate and Land Use Section of the California State Bar, and is a member of the San Francisco, Contra Costa County and Alameda County Bar Associations. He also devotes substantial professional effort acting as an arbitrator and mediator for the San Francisco Bar Association, San Francisco County Superior Court and Contra Costa County Superior Court.

Mr. Delehunt is the author of articles on the California Environmental Quality Act and is a contributing editor and consultant to CEB publications on civil procedure and real estate litigation. He also lectures on commercial litigation and land use and has served as a consultant to the California Continuing Education of the Bar concerning treatises on mortgage and deed of trust practice and regarding civil litigation procedures before trial.
