| Biography | Mike is a member in the firm's Boston office, practicing in the Litigation Section. His focus is on civil and criminal trial work in state and federal courts, including complex securities, commercial, and real estate litigation. Mike has represented clients in shareholder litigation, securities litigation, fraud and management disputes, business breakups, defamation actions, trade secret litigation, class actions, and disputes involving professional malpractice and fiduciaries. He has also represented a number of clients in land use, zoning, and other real estate related disputes. Mike also represents individual clients and corporations in the high-tech, software, insurance, financial, and telecommunications industries before federal and state courts, arbitration panels and government agencies. His criminal practice includes representing defendants and witnesses in actions before federal and state courts, as well as before federal and state agencies. Mike has successfully represented officers, directors, and shareholders in securities, class actions, derivative litigation, and other proceedings involving shareholders' rights. For example, he was lead counsel for the former executive officers and senior management of a major educational software company in the federal class action securities litigation which commenced after the company's merger with one of the world's leading toy brand manufacturers. After certain claims were dismissed and after the discovery process, all claims were successfully resolved. Mike is active in a number of the firm's practice groups, including the securities litigation, real estate and land use litigation, and white collar criminal defense practice groups. He is a frequent lecturer and panelist with Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education and has conducted seminars on trial practice, deposition practice, expert witnesses, and the settlement process. He was also involved with the Boston Bar Association Court Reform Task Force which, in 1991, studied the state court system, formulated a plan to reform the court system, and prepared the legislation which was then enacted as the Massachusetts court reform law. Mike was named as a Super Lawyer for Business Litigation for Boston and New England by Boston Magazine for the years 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2011. In 2006, he received the Embracing the Legacy Award from the Robert F. Kennedy Children's Action Corps, where he serves as a member of the Board of Directors. Mike is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and is a member of the American, Massachusetts, and Boston Bar Associations. He has practiced before state and federal courts in Massachusetts, New York, Delaware, New Hampshire, Maine, Texas, and California. Mike has also practiced before the American Arbitration Association and the International Centre for Dispute Resolution. He received his B.A. from Providence College (1984), and his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School (1987). After law school, he served as a Law Clerk from 1987 to 1988 and as Chief Law Clerk to the Justices of the Massachusetts Superior Court from 1988 to 1989.
