Mr. Connery began his legal career with Kutak Rock in Nebraska in 1984, chaired Kutak Rock's National Litigation Group for more than 10 years and now focuses on the growth of Kutak Rock in Philadelphia and the East.
Mr. Connery was born in Norristown, Pennsylvania and grew up in Philadelphia. He graduated from St. Joseph's Preparatory School in 1970 and earned his B.S. in psychology from St. Joseph's University in 1974. Mr. Connery moved to Nebraska in 1980 and graduated from the University of Nebraska Law School in 1984.
He has first-chaired numerous bench and jury trials in commercial, products liability, insurance, securities and severe personal injury cases in state and federal courts around the nation. Also, as a national counsel, he has managed thousands of trials and case resolutions in every major jurisdiction across the country.
Kutak Rock Risk Management
Mr. Connery developed and leads Kutak Rock's Risk Management Practice. He represents, consults with and advises a number of the largest companies in the world on risk management best practices as well as the resolution of major litigation.
The Risk Management Practice concentrates on the resolution of severe and complex matters. It aims at ending those extreme and compelling claims and lawsuits which, in many cases, present substantial liability, attorneys' fees, damages and adverse precedent risk for the company and its shareholders. The cases resolved and the risk eliminated by Mr. Connery have included numerous commercial lawsuits; products, consumer, medical and employment class actions; and severe tort claims, including products liability and pharmaceutical suits and construction and design failures.
The Risk Management of Repetitive Claims.
This legal emphasis at Kutak focuses upon the threat to companies posed by the organized plaintiffs' bar and the mass filing of claims. For more than 20 years Kutak Rock and Mr. Connery have served as national counsel for leading U.S. and international companies on repetitive claims and mass tort litigation. The model of mass tort and repetitive claims defense Mr. Connery and the Kutak Rock National Coordinating Counsel Practice have developed is unique among national counsel mass tort and repetitive claims activities. The effectiveness of this model is unsurpassed in the avoidance of risk for the client.
Resolution of Major Insurance Claims
Mr. Connery uses his 25 years of experience in sophisticated insurance coverage matters to advise and counsel leading U.S. and international insurance companies and policyholders on major claims. He has provided coverage opinions, advice and resolution on all manner of insurance claims, from the basic to the most sophisticated excess layers and reinsurance. He has served as lead coverage counsel on CGL, design, construction, medical, theft loss, environmental, D&O, EPL and other insuring agreements.
Mr. Connery served as the Chair of Litigation for more than 10 years. He has frequently presented at NITA deposition and trial programs and is AV Preeminent TM Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell. He routinely presents and conducts best practices roundtables on the Risk Management of Individual Claims , the Risk Management of Repetitive Claims and National Coordinating Counsel issues to corporate legal departments, risk managers and insurance carriers. He is admitted to practice law in Nebraska and Pennsylvania.
