Experience Mike is a Shareholder and Director of the law firm and heads the firm's Health Law Group consisting of over 30 lawyers. Mike has a litigation and business practice representing clients in the health care industry, including hospitals, nursing homes, physicians, diagnostic imaging centers, home health agencies, pharmacies, medical equipment suppliers, and therapy companies. He has handled over 100 Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement cases resulting in recoveries of tens of millions of dollars in additional reimbursement. In addition, he handles criminal, civil and administrative health care fraud investigations, qui tam or whistleblower cases, contract disputes, health insurance claims, malpractice, and medical staff disputes. Mike has been lead trial counsel in a number of significant federal, state, and administrative health law cases. Mike also has experience representing parties in health care transactions, including the drafting of purchase and sale contracts, leases, management agreements, letters of intent, and other necessary documents. He frequently advises clients about federal and state fraud and abuse laws and gives opinions when necessary suggesting alternative ways to achieve objectives. Mike conducts fraud and abuse audits for health care clients and makes recommendations regarding voluntary compliance to avoid liability under the federal and state False Claims Acts. As part of Mike's professional development, he actively participates in state and national health law organizations. Mike lectures extensively on issues such as false claims, Medicare, Medicaid, hospital operations, medical records, health insurance, ERISA, managed care liability, and fraud and abuse. Background Mike grew up in Bethesda, Maryland. After graduating from the Georgetown University School of Business with a major in accounting, Mike earned his law degree from the Columbus School of Law at Catholic University in Washington, D.C. Mike began practicing law in Orlando, Florida, in 1982. He is Board Certified as a Specialist in Health Law, and Past Chair of The Florida Bar's Health Law Section, composed of approximately 1,400 lawyers.
