Biography

Michael J. Burg, Jr. is an associate in the Commercial Litigation Practice Group.

Litigation. Mike has participated in a wide variety of litigation matters, including patent infringement at the trial and appellate levels, commercial arbitration, electronic discovery disputes, and veterans' discrimination pro bono work. Mike has helped lead the discovery process for a large commercial arbitration. He has been involved in all aspects of the litigations, including research and drafting, jury selection, discovery, motion practice, and witness interviewing and preparation.

Electronic Discovery Counseling. Mike has assisted clients on a broad range of electronic discovery and records management issues. He has counseled clients on strategic e-discovery and record retention issues, including drafting and implementing record retention policies, negotiating vendor contracts, and other strategic EDRM matters. He has also assisted clients in litigation-related electronic discovery matters, including pretrial investigation of electronic document authentication and large products liability discovery proceedings.

Intellectual Property Counseling. Mike counsels clients in preparing and filing patent and trademark applications and responses, as well as issues of validity and possible infringement. Mike has also assisted with corporate transaction due diligence issues and strategic portfolio management.

In General. Mike received his J.D., cum laude, from the Rutgers University School of Law - Camden and his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Rowan University. While at Rutgers, Mike served as the managing notes editor for the Rutgers Journal of Law and Urban Policy and as a legal research and writing instructor.

Prior to law school, Mike worked for several years as an engineer for the U.S. Navy's Ship Systems Engineering Station in Philadelphia, where he was responsible for developing and implementing upgrades to surface craft gas turbine engine systems. Mike is also an active member of the Sports Car Club of America.
