Michael Ferrell serves as chair of Williams Mullen's Federal Government Relations practice in Washington, DC. His practice focuses on advising firm clients on a wide range of legislative and political issues. A seasoned advocate, Mr. Ferrell offers a unique perspective on Congress as well as a proven track record of success in developing and executing successful legislative and political strategies. He is an adept and capable strategist whose knowledge and experience affords clients with the highest level of professional representation before Congress. In 1990, the American Banker named Mr. Ferrell, one of the Capitol City's top lobbyists. Mr. Ferrell joins Williams Mullen from Venable LLP where he established and served as chair of the Legislative and Government Affairs practice in Washington, DC. Prior to Venable, he co-owned a business and government affairs consulting firm specializing in mortgage finance issues and advising clients on legislative, regulatory and enforcement actions pending in Congress and relevant federal agencies; a chief lobbyist of a national real estate finance association responsible for developing and executing the organization's legislative policy and strategy; engaged in a general legislative practice with emphasis on foreign governments and U.S. financial services sector; and spent more than a decade as a legislative aide on Capitol Hill including serving as the Chief of Staff to a Member of the US House of Representatives and as a Subcommittee Staff Director before leaving to join a private law firm. Mr. Ferrell earned his juris doctor from George Mason University in 1980 and received his bachelor of arts degree from Mercy College of Detroit in 1973.
