Biography

Michael Glanz has an active and extensive global commercial law practice. He regularly advises U.S. companies doing business in Europe, Asia and South America, as well as non-U.S. corporate clients with operations in the U.S. and other countries. Michael counsels these clients on cross-border acquisitions and other transactions, joint venture negotiations, and the structuring of multinational business operations. He was one of the founders of Foley Hoag's International Practice Group and served as its chair for many years.

Michael counsels companies in industries as diverse as high technology, medical device manufacturing, and forestry. He has also advised a foreign government on privatizing assets in a variety of industries.

Prior to joining the firm in 1986, Michael served as Attorney-Advisor in the Office of the Legal Adviser of the U.S. Department of State. His responsibilities included development and presentation of U.S. Government positions in international negotiations and arbitral proceedings. In that capacity he served as a Member of the U.S. Delegation for the U.S.-Ethiopian claims negotiations in Addis Ababa (1985), and as an Adviser to the Agent at the U.S.- Iran Claims Tribunal in the Hague (1985).

Representative Experience

The following is a brief summary of Michael's experience and accomplishments:

· Represented a U.S. manufacturer in acquiring operations in Spain and Mexico

· Served as U.S. counsel to a Japanese company in its acquisition of a U.S. medical device company

· Represented a U.S. company in the sale of manufacturing and distribution operations in the U.K., France and Australia

· Has extensive experience with international forestry ventures including joint ventures, acquisitions and dispositions in New Zealand, Chile, Uruguay, Argentina and Australia

· Served as privatization counsel to the Government of Guyana in connection with the privatization of numerous state owned entities including the national airline and companies in the retail and pharmaceutical sectors

· Assisted a U.S. high technology company in setting up a wholly-owned distribution network in Europe and Asia

· Represented a Norwegian defense manufacturer in setting up operations in the U.S.

· Assisted a U.S.-based NGO in setting up a wholly-owned subsidiary in India

· Represented a U.S. travel services company in a reverse acquisition with an Irish company

· Represented a Malaysian investor in a joint venture in the U.S.
