Practice/Industry Group Overview

The real estate practice of Miles & Stockbridge embraces many aspects of the real estate industry in both the private and public sectors. We regularly assist our clients in the real estate development field with comprehensive legal services related to the acquisition, zoning, land use, development, construction, leasing, management, taxation and disposition of new and existing properties. In addition, we are frequently engaged to defend real estate developers and managers against claims arising from indoor environmental quality issues such as asbestos, mold and chemical exposures. We are experienced in providing counsel on matters related to open space and farmland preservation.

In the public and nonprofit sectors, we are experienced in the affordable housing field, including developments involving the Department of Housing and Urban Development, where we are adept at managing complex transactions, multiple financing sources and tax issues for both government agencies and nonprofit organizations. Our public sector clients include the City of Baltimore Department of Housing and Community Development, Howard County, MD; and Worcester County, MD.
