About this office:
Mishcon de Reya is a law firm with offices in London and New York. Founded by Victor Mishcon in a one-room office in Brixton in 1937, it now employ more than 500 people, with over 300 lawyers offering a wide range of legal services to companies and individuals.
The firm: In every area of the law that it operates, Mishcon de Reya prides itself in providing a best in class service to its clients. Specifically it offers the following legal services: corporate; dispute resolution; employment; family; private client; and real estate. An entrepreneurial spirit - where candour and involvement are key - characterises our ability to develop and execute the strategies required to achieve our clients' goals in all these areas.
Mishcon de Reya is an independent firm with an international footprint that extends far beyond its offices in London and New York. A large part of its business is advising on multi-jurisdictional transactions and disputes; established links with overseas practices help serve the needs of an increasingly international client base.
The firm's clients are dynamic and sophisticated and this is reflected in the firm's challenge to conventional or accepted ways of working. The lawyers at Mishcon de Reya fiercely guard their clients' interests, recognising the significant nexus between business affairs and personal affairs and the ways in which this affects clients.
Mishcon de Reya has been accredited by Lexcel and Investors in People since 2006 and in 2012 achieved Gold status for Investors in People. Mishcon de Reya placed twelfth in 'The Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For' list in 2013. Along with being the firm's highest placing to date, it is also the highest ranking of any law firm in the prestigious list this year.
Mishcon de Reya was named Law Firm of the Year and Real Estate Team of the Year at the Legal Business Awards 2012 and The Lawyer Awards 2012.
Types of work undertaken:
Corporate: The privilege of sitting alongside clients as their trusted adviser is something Mishcon de Reya values highly. The firm believes that its client relationships should extend beyond the simple facilitation of a transaction, to encompass the role of business adviser, and being part of a deal-making team.
Dispute resolution: Disputes are, by their very nature, distracting and, for most of us, stressful.
The obvious solution is to solve them as quickly as possible. The law can be a complex beast and otherwise rational people can be consumed by emotion in the midst of a dispute. Mishcon de Reya's approach is simple: give clear, dispassionate advice from the start. Part of this common-sense thinking is addressing anxiety about costs, which is why the firm has developed a unique funding and insurance package to keep risk to a minimum.
Employment: As one of few firms acting at the highest level for both employers and employees, Mishcon de Reya has a unique understanding of tactics deployed by both sides and a balanced understanding of the issues involved. The department's lawyers have a strong reputation as high level strategists, with a fearlessness based on experience and know how. They are risk managers with a very good understanding of when to take risk and when to minimise it.
Mishcon Private: Dealing with an individual, a family business or a family office requires an understanding that sometimes the seemingly small things can be the most critical. The firm offers all the legal services an individual may need, ranging from asset protection to immigration and from probate and succession to reputation management.
Real Estate: The real estate group provides specialist practices that enable the firm to offer clients a genuine one-stop shop for property services. Clients benefit from the close relationship between the contentious and non-contentious experts in the practice. From acquisition and planning, to construction and disposal through to commercial and residential property. Beyond this the department involves the firm's other specialist departments and can facilitate deals by bringing people, financial investment and opportunities together via its extensive network of contacts.
