Melanie Garrett-Bailey was born in New York, USA and attended the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus in Barbados from which she graduated in 2004 with an LL.B. (Hons.) degree. She then completed the Legal Education Certificate at the Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad and Tobago in 2006. She was called to the Bar in Barbados in 2006.

Melanie gained work experience in the areas of personal injury, conveyancing, administration of estates and company law during an internship in 2005 at Yearwood & Boyce, Attorneys-at-Law. She joined Clarke Gittens Farmer in 2007 as an Associate in the Property Department where she practices in the area of mortgages and conveyancing.

Melanie's interests include drama, dance, music and swimming.
