Ms. Coakley advises clients on a broad range of matters relating to the federal income taxation of corporations and their shareholders. These include domestic and international mergers and acquisitions, leveraged buyouts, spin-offs and other divestitures, financing and capital markets transactions, insurance tax matters and general corporate tax planning. Ms. Coakley's experience includes the design and implementation of intricate corporate tax planning transactions, internal restructurings and post-acquisition integration, in projects often requiring careful coordination with other counsel and advisors. Ms. Coakley represents clients before the Internal Revenue Service in requests for private letter rulings, and also advises clients on tax controversy matters. Ms. Coakley is a member of the Tax Sections of the American Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association, and has spoken at conferences and authored articles on corporate tax topics. Ms. Coakley's pro bono activities include matters relating to special education law and advocacy on behalf of individuals affected by fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD). As the leader of the Dewey & LeBoeuf FASD Advocacy Project, Ms. Coakley is a frequent speaker to attorneys and other professionals about FASD and its relevance to the justice system.
