Nancy L. Schimmel is a partner in Barnes & Thornburg LLP's Chicago office and is a member of the Corporate Department.
Ms. Schimmel is experienced in the negotiation and documentation of trade, health care, loan and lease receivable securitizations, installment timberland purchases and a variety of other structured financings. She has assisted clients with secured and unsecured working capital and leveraged acquisition financings, as well as high-yield bridge and debtor-in-possession financings. Ms. Schimmel has also handled cash-collateral orders, restructurings of problem loans, letters of credit, bankers acceptance facilities and asset-based financings.
Prior to joining Barnes & Thornburg, Ms. Schimmel was a shareholder at Greenberg Traurig, LLP and a partner at Latham & Watkins LLP, both in Chicago. Ms. Schimmel also served for six years in the U.S. Banking Section of the Law Department of JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A (formerly known as The First National Bank of Chicago), where she taught commercial law and bankruptcy in JPMorgan Chase's loan officer training program.
Ms. Schimmel has been recognized in Illinois Super Lawyers® every year since 2010 for her work in Banking and Bankruptcy & Creditor/Debtor Rights. Ms. Schimmel has also been recognized in the 2011 edition of Legal 500 US and by the Leading Lawyers Network in 2011 and 2012.
Ms. Schimmel received her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1981 and her B.A. from Williams College in 1978. She later received her M.B.A. from Northwestern University in 1987.
Ms. Schimmel is a member of the American Bar Association's Section on Banking and Business, and the New York State, Illinois, and Chicago Bar Associations. She is admitted to practice in Illinois and New York.
