| Biography | Nicholas K. Kile is a partner in Barnes & Thornburg LLP's Indianapolis, Indiana office. He practices primarily in the Governmental Services Department. He represents utilities and local governments in all facets of utility law, including utilities that are regulated in whole or in part by the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission and those that are not. Mr. Kile's practice includes rates and charges, bond issuances, acquisitions, privatizations, lobbying, environmental regulation, annexation, condemnation, territorial disputes, zoning, litigation, main extension agreements, cable television, franchising and other operating authority, and appeals. He regularly practices before the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission and the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. Mr. Kile received his B.A. cum laude from Butler University in 1987 with highest honors in accounting. In 1990 he was awarded his J.D. summa cum laude by Indiana University School of Law - Bloomington, where he graduated first in his class and served on the Indiana Law Journal. After graduation, he served as law clerk to the Honorable Jesse E. Eschbach, senior circuit judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit, from 1990 to 1991. Mr. Kile joined the firm in 1991. He served as an adjunct professor in the College of Business of Butler University from 1993 through 1999. Mr. Kile is listed in The Best Lawyers in America® in the area of Energy and Water. Mr. Kile is a member of the Indiana State and 7th Circuit Bar Associations and has served as chairperson of the Water and Sewer Division of the Utilities Section of the Indiana State Bar Association. He is admitted to practice in the state of Indiana, the United States District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana, and the United States Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit.
