Owen Johnson is the Practice Group Leader for our Business Law Group in Calgary, with particular responsibility for Western Canada and our London, UK Practice. Mr. Johnson has a broad corporate and commercial practice with a particular focus on mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance.
Mr. Johnson is recognized in the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, a guide to the leading law firms and practitioners in Canada, in the area of corporate mid-market, and is listed as one of the top 100 cross-border lawyers in Canada.
Mr. Johnson has acted in many significant public and private transactions. He represented Rio Tinto plc on its U.S. $38.1 billion acquisition of Alcan Inc., Canada's largest public take-over bid. He acted for Bank of Nova Scotia on a number of M&A transactions in Latin America, including with respect to its operations in Argentina during the Argentine economic crisis. Mr. Johnson also represented TD Bank in numerous public corporate finance transactions, including multi-billion dollar capital raising to fund its purchase of Canada Trust. He has also acted for Shell Canada, including with respect to its closure of the Montreal East Refinery, and Enbridge Inc. on M&A matters.
