Mr. Toomey is a partner in the firm's Real Estate Practice Group. His practice primarily involves commercial real estate development, representation of clients before governmental authorities involved with land use controls, and representation of universities and other not for profit entities seeking to develop their properties. He is familiar with all aspects of the development, acquisition, permitting, financing, construction, management, leasing and disposition of commercial properties. Mr. Toomey has also represented franchisors in the hospitality industry.
Recent projects include obtaining subdivision approval for an approximately 445 acre office, and research and development project within the Greater Boston area, representation with respect to acquisition, leasing and disposition of commercial office buildings throughout the United States, and the disposition of approximately 1,000,000 square feet of bio-tech space in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Mr. Toomey has also represented landlords and tenants in commercial leasing transactions. In addition to experience in commercial real estate, he also has experience in the areas of general corporate representation, franchising, bank financing, and alcoholic beverage licensing.
Although much of Mr. Toomey's work involves projects in the Boston metropolitan area, his experience includes representation of clients throughout New England and other areas of the country.
Mr. Toomey is a graduate of Georgetown University and William and Mary School of Law, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review. He has been a visiting lecturer at the Center for Real Estate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is a past member of the Town of Concord Planning Board and the Town's Zoning Board of Appeals, and a current member of the Town's Community Preservation Committee. Mr. Toomey also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Emerson Umbrella Center for the Arts in Concord, Massachusetts.
Mr. Toomey is recognized as a Massachusetts Super Lawyer for 2004 and 2005.
