Paul's employment and education law practice is divided between the areas of substantive labor law, employment discrimination defense, human resources counseling and education law. In the traditional labor area, Paul has successfully defended labor arbitrations in discipline, discharge and contract interpretation cases; assisted with traditional labor and employment-related due diligence in multiple significant corporate transactions; worked with clients to develop strategies for union negotiations and/or union organizing campaigns; and defended employers against unfair labor practice charges filed with the National Labor Relations Board. Paul's employment discrimination defense is both regional and national in scope. On the education side, Paul has defended institutions of higher education in litigation involving tenure disputes, employment discrimination and academic freedom issues. Paul also provides labor and employment training to several school districts and defends these institutions in various legal matters. Paul regularly conducts policy reviews and training sessions on effectively managing employees and other subjects, including training on the Family Medical Leave Act and the ADA. He has negotiated and drafted executive employment agreements and restrictive covenants, and he has drafted employee handbooks and stand-alone policies.
