Paul represents clients in all aspects of intellectual property including development of patent programs, in the U.S. and internationally, and advising clients with strategies to design around or avoid patents of third parties of which they become aware. He also prepares agreements pertaining to technology and develops programs to address both internal and externally received invention disclosures. He has extensive experience in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications pertaining to software-based systems, electronics, digital systems of all types, control systems, mechanical and electro-mechanical devices. In addition, he has advised clients in the development of brand name and trademark programs. Paul's litigation experience includes patent and/or trade secret cases pertaining to electronic circuits and electronic systems as well as unfair competition and contracts. Paul has served as general counsel for hardware and software vendors, and has prepared and negotiated licenses and contracts for hardware and software systems. His industrial experience before becoming an attorney includes the design and writing of CAD software for Bell Laboratories, hardware and software design for a division of Rockwell International, and hardware design for Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory. His academic experience with the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science departments of the University of Oklahoma included teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in computer organization, software design, and programming. Paul's research and publications while teaching at the University of Oklahoma were related to computer graphics, human-computer interactions, and real-time control systems.
