Biography

Paul W. Chaiken is a graduate of Boston University and the University of Maine School of Law. At the request of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court, he chaired the task force rewriting Maine's Code of Professional Conduct, the ethics rules for attorneys in Maine, which rules were implemented in August 2009.

In 2002 he was appointed by Maine Governor Angus King to serve as one of Maine's three Commissioners to the Uniform Law Conference, the national organization which writes and seeks enactment of such uniform acts as the Commercial Code, the Probate Code, and numerous business codes. He was reappointed by Governor John Baldacci in 2008, and by Governor Paul LePage in 2012.

Paul is a past president of the Maine Bar Association. He served two terms as chair of the Supreme Court's Advisory Committee on the Rules of Evidence. He currently chairs the Court's Advisory Committee on the Rules of Professional Conduct. Prior to joining Rudman Winchell in 1977, Paul served as an Assistant District Attorney for the State of Maine. By appointment of the Bangor City Council, Paul is a Commissioner of the Bangor Housing Authority, currently serving as the Board's Chair.
