Biography

Ms. Jura is a senior associate in Gibson Dunn's Los Angeles office. Ms. Jura's practice focuses on transnational litigation, complex business litigation, and appellate and constitutional law.

Complex Litigation, Transnational Litigation & Foreign Judgments. Ms. Jura has significant expertise in complex business litigation, global litigation and foreign judgments. She has played a key role in several high-profile transnational trials and appeals, counsels on cross-border matters implicating the laws of more than 50 countries, and regularly plays a key advisory role in foreign trials and appeals that threaten U.S. repercussions. Among other things, Ms. Jura is an expert when it comes to conducting foreign litigation with a comprehensive global strategy, securing positive results in multiple jurisdictions simultaneously, and managing transnational litigation to avoid vexatious litigation, inconsistent results, and waiver in subsequent foreign jurisdictions. Ms. Jura also has significant experience litigating cases that turn on complex choice of law issues and litigating recognition and enforcement of foreign country judgments. Some of Ms. Jura's most recent representative matters, publications, and presentations include:

· Chevron Corp. v. Donziger, Case No. 11 Civ. 3718 (S.D.N.Y. 2011) (regarding recognition and enforcement of $18 billion foreign judgment);

· Tellez v. Dole Food Co., No. BC 312852 (Cal. Super. Ct. Mar. 11, 2011) (securing dismissal with prejudice of U.S.-filed toxic tort claims alleging that DBCP caused reproductive harm);

· Osorio v. Dole Food Co., 665 F. Supp. 2d 1307, 1351 (S.D. Fla. 2009), aff'd, 635 F.3d 1277 (11th Cir. 2011) (blocking recognition and enforcement of $97 million toxic tort judgment awarded by Nicaraguan court without due process or evidence of causation);

· Kerr v. Chrysler, No. AD 06-10645 (Penn. 2009) (securing summary judgment against punitive damages based on successful choice of law argument requiring application of Michigan law); and Schute v. Chrysler, (New York 2008) (punitive damages claim dismissed in New York-filed action based on application of Michigan law);

· A New Transnational Battleground (Presented for the Los Angeles County Bar Association in Los Angeles, October 2010) (discussing current trends in foreign judgment recognition and enforcement throughout the United States);

· Current Issues in the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Judgments (LACBA 2010) (outlining key legal issues and strategy suggestions for litigating foreign recognition and enforcement claims);

In April 2012, Ms. Jura was selected for membership in the Pacific Council on International Policy. She is also a member of the American Bar Association's Transnational Legal Practice Committee, the Association's International Courts Committee and the International Litigation Committee.

Appellate & Constitutional Law. Ms. Jura likewise devotes significant time to Gibson Dunn's Appellate and Constitutional Law practice group. She has played a key role in a broad range of cases at both trial and appellate court levels, in U.S. state and federal courts. Her appellate experience includes drafting briefs and petitions filed in the California Courts of Appeal, the United States Courts of Appeals, the California Supreme Court, and the United States Supreme Court. Some of Ms. Jura's more recent representative matters and presentations include:

· Osorio v. Dole Food Co., 635 F.3d 1277 (11th Cir. 2011) (affirming district court decision denying recognition and enforcement of $97 million toxic tort judgment awarded by Nicaraguan court without due process or evidence of causation);

· Norwood v. Bourland, Case No. 09-56969 (9th Cir. 2011) (ongoing civil rights appeal);

· Dole Food Co., Inc. v. S.C.L.A., CA Case No. B216182 (Cal. App. 2009) (securing writ of error coram vobis to reopen jury verdict in toxic tort case based on evidence of extrinsic fraud and due process violations);

· California Veterinary Medical Ass'n v. City of West Hollywood, 61 Cal. Rptr. 3d 318 (Cal. App. 2009) (confirming city's power to issue regulations preventing animal cruelty);

· Gnesda v. UPS, 2008 WL 240283 (Cal. App. 2008) (reversing trial court's decision to award punitive damages);

· Hydranautics v. Filmtec Corp., 224 Fed. Appx. 675 (9th Cir. 2007) (denying malicious prosecution and antitrust challenges to patent infringement litigation);

· Vieth v. Jubelirer, 541 U.S. 267 (2004) (political gerrymandering);

· Appellate Oral Argument and Persuasion (Presented in Los Angeles for Loyola Law School, December 2010).

Before joining the firm, Ms. Jura served as a law clerk to the Honorable Pamela Ann Rymer of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. She is an active member of the ABA Judicial Division's Council of Appellate Lawyers, and serves on several of the committees for the division.

Ms. Jura graduated Order of the Coif from Stanford Law School. Ms. Jura was an Executive Editor of Stanford Law Review and received the Board of Editors Award. She was also the Student Director of the Stanford Community Law Clinic, and a graduate advisor and teacher. Ms. Jura was awarded the Public Interest and Pro Bono Service award during 2003-2004. Ms. Jura was also recipient of the 2003-2004 Stanford Law School Fellowship, and the 2002-2003 John Cushing Duniway Scholarship. While studying at Stanford, Ms. Jura also worked with Earthjustice and was certified to represent Earthjustice in environmental cases filed in federal district court and at the Ninth Circuit.

Ms. Jura graduated summa cum laude from the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she was the Commencement Speaker at the Fine Arts & Humanities ceremony. Ms. Jura majored in both Philosophy and Communication. She was the recipient of the 2001 Ralph W. Church Scholarship and the 2001 Girvetz Memorial prize winner (awarded annually to the best undergraduate philosopher). Ms. Jura was also President of Phi Sigma Tau, President of the Philosophy Club, and a member of the Provost's Honors Council. While in attendance at the University of California, Ms. Jura worked for the Santa Barbara County District Attorney's Office as one of five consumer mediation agents, receiving the Santa Barbara County District Attorney's Award for Outstanding Service & Contributions. During this time Ms. Jura also published Revisiting the Trolley Problem, 10 Hemlock Papers 15 (2000).

Since graduating from Stanford, Ms. Jura has maintained her close ties with the law school. She has been a member of Stanford's Young Alumni Partner's Circle since 2006, she is an active member of the Women of Stanford Law, and is part of the group's alumni mentoring program. Ms. Jura is also involved in the firm's local and nationwide diversity and recruiting efforts. She is a member of Gibson Dunn's Hiring Committee and the Diversity Committee, including the Professional Development Sub-Committee. Ms. Jura is also a member of the Women Lawyer's Association of Los Angeles.

Ms. Jura is admitted to practice in the State of California, the Northern District of California, and the Fifth, Ninth, Tenth and Eleventh Circuits. She is also a member of the French American Bar Association.
