A trial and appellate lawyer in the firm's Boston office, Peter concentrates on the prosecution, defense, and appeal of cases involving unfair business practices, trade secret theft, breach of duty by business owners and officers, and business fraud. He just completed a term as co-chair of the Business Litigation Committee of The Boston Bar Association, and currently serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of the Civil RICO Report. In 2004, Peter was recognized as one of the top 100 Super Lawyers in Massachusetts, and has been named a Massachusetts Super Lawyer each year since. Most recently, Peter's trial experience in state and federal courts has included: · a two-week jury trial in which our client sued for breach of a multi-million-dollar construction contract. The jury found liability on all counts, and the judge found unfair business practices sufficient to warrant the award to our client of reasonable attorneys' fees. · a two-week jury trial in which our client sued to reverse the purported sale of a large leased portion of its corporate headquarters. The jury found liability for breach of contract and breach of duty, awarded damages including lost profits, and made an advisory finding of unfair business practices sufficient to warrant the award of multiple damages and reasonable attorneys' fees to our client. · a six-day bench trial in which our client, a substantial individual investor, was sued for $20 million on claims of wrongful interference and unfair business practices. The judge found no liability and awarded the return of all encumbered security to our client. · a month-long jury trial in which our client, a multinational professional services firm, admitted employee breach but defended on claims of supervisory liability. The jury found no supervisory liability, and rejected claims for punitive damages and attorneys' fees. Prior to these cases, Peter helped lead a defense team which, after a four-month jury trial, defeated three billion-dollar RICO claims asserted against a private company and its CEO. At every opportune moment in all of his cases, Peter utilizes mediators, masters, and arbitrators to resolve disputed issues or streamline them short of trial. Peter has served as one of the firm's Managing Directors, and as a member of its Policy Committee. He has chaired, and continues to serve as a member of, the Board of Directors of the Kenneth B. Schwartz Center, a national grantmaking organization dedicated to strengthening the relationship between patients and caregivers. Peter is admitted to practice in Massachusetts.
