| Biography | Peter is Chairman of the firm's Corporate & Securities Section and a member of the firm's Policy Committee. In addition to managing the firm's Corporate & Securities Section, he provides strategic counseling on a broad range of corporate and fiduciary issues. Peter returned to Mintz Levin in 2004 from his position in executive management for Sun Life Financial Inc.'s U.S. Operations. Before joining Sun Life in 1998, Peter practiced at Mintz Levin for 10 years, became a Member of the firm in 1992, and was the Manager of the Corporate & Securities Section from 1994 to 1996. Peter provides strategic direction on mergers and acquisitions, investments and financings, fiduciary and governance matters, other complex transactions, business start-ups, and general corporate matters. He is a seasoned advisor who works with public and private companies, non-profit organizations, and entrepreneurs in industries as diverse as consumer products, financial services, health care, technology, biotechnology, and real estate. He has substantial experience counseling boards and management on transactional, business development, and operations matters. In his most recent role at Sun Life, Peter served as Vice President-Chief Strategy and Business Development Officer for U.S. Operations. He was responsible for the organization's acquisition and disposition activity, leading U.S. strategy development and management for two operating subsidiaries. Peter also served Sun Life as Vice President-Chief Counsel for U.S. Operations, during which time he managed the law and compliance departments and was responsible for the legal affairs of the U.S. operations, including corporate governance, business acquisitions and dispositions, dispute resolution, regulatory matters, investments, product development and distribution, intellectual property matters, and human resource matters. Peter is a director of the Wildlands Trust of Southeastern Massachusetts and The Center for Legal Aid Education, and a consultant to non-profits through the Harvard Business School Association of Boston Community Action Partners. Peter received his B.A., cum laude, from Ithaca College (1979) and his J.D., cum laude, from Boston University School of Law (1984).
