Philip G. ("Phil") Piggott is a partner at Starnes Davis Florie. He has been with the firm since 1999. Practice Phil's practice is devoted to civil litigation, including topics related to complex business litigation, health care related issues, and employment matters at the trial and appellate levels. He is admitted to practice in all state and federal courts in Alabama, as well as the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Phil handles a diverse spectrum of commercial litigation including matters involving mining and mineral issues, contractual disputes, employment matters, and environmental and toxic tort issues. Phil is actively involved in the representation of health care institutions, physicians, and medical professionals in a variety of matters, including medical malpractice litigation, civil rights actions, contract disputes, and disciplinary actions. Highlights * Currently representing developers and general contractors in numerous State and Federal claims regarding allegations that toxic Chinese Drywall was utilized in properties owned by the Claimants. * Received an order from the Alabama Supreme Court affirming summary judgment for complete dismissal from the Montgomery Circuit Court in favor of treating physicians and nurses in a medical malpractice case involving the alleged misdiagnosis and mistreatment of a patient who was the victim of a stroke. * Obtained an opinion from the Supreme Court of Alabama in favor of a construction company client in which the Supreme Court affirmed the denial of a motion to intervene filed by the construction company's insurer against the construction company. * Obtained a summary judgment in favor of a municipality against an paramedic services company in an action alleging deprivation of a property interest and procedural due process rights when the paramedic services company was removed from the municipality's E-911 rotation. * Obtained a summary judgment in favor of an accounting practice in a suit arising from an AP action in Bankruptcy Court. * Obtained a summary judgment in favor of a mineral company in a seven-year case arising from disputes over leases and agreements dating back to the late-1960's. * Obtained a jury verdict in a historical matter involving claims brought under the Alien Tort Statute, a 218 year old law. * Currently representing a client in one of the largest condemnation cases in Alabama's history, involving surface and mineral rights condemned by the Alabama Department of Transportation for the construction of an interstate highway. * Currently representing one of the fastest growing counties in the State of Alabama in multiple condemnation matters for the construction of a new water facility and pipe line. * Recently won a favorable ruling after a trial for alleged violation of a non-compete agreement. * Recently obtained a jury verdict in favor of a client involving a contractural dispute. Honors And Awards While in law school, Phil was elected to the Order of the Barristers and was an Associate Editor of the American Journal of Trial Advocacy. He was a member of the Law School's Moot Court Team as well as a member of the Jessup International Law Moot Court Team. He is a member of the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC), Defense Research Institute (DRI), International Municipal Lawyers Association, Alabama Association of Municipal Attorneys, American Bar Association, and the Alabama State Bar Association. Community Involvement Phil is an active member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church where he is an Acolyte leader.
