The firm was established in 1975 and offers a full range of legal services. It is well reputed for its Commercial, Corporate, Mining, Energy, Telecommunications and Hydrocarbons Law Practice. The client base is mainly international in scope.
Since its foundation, the firm has represented some of the main foreign investors in its areas of practice. Its members have also assumed responsibilities outside office; Dr. Quintanilla Y. having acted as cabinet minister during Ovando's presidency in 1970, former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Banco Mercantil S.A., and Dr. Quintanilla B. and Dr. Nishizawa have been members of the Faculty of Universidad Mayor de San Andrés and Universidad Católica Boliviana for several years, the former being the Bolivia representative of the Harvard Law School Association.
Today, the firm has a broad and well established corporate and commercial practice which includes the general representation of corporations and private entities, both domestic and foreign, including tax planning, preparation of contracts and general counseling. Members of the firm usually participate in national forums of different kinds and have professionally assisted in complex international transactions. Presently, the firm has extended its practice to embrace both established fields such as corporate and commercial law, oil, energy and mining law, foreign investment, banking, taxation as well as other developing areas in Bolivia, such as international joint ventures, project financing, securities law, telecommunications, regulatory system, etc. The firm also permanently participates as consultant to the Government in the preparation of new legislative drafts. Partners have acted as legal counsel for the drafting of several laws in force, such as the Tax Law, the Mining Code, the Electricity Law, the Stock Market Law, and the Central Bank Law.
