Remfry & Sagar is the oldest IP firm in the country - established in 1827 by Mr. Henry Oliver Remfry, an immigrant from Cornwall, England, under the name "Remfry & Son." Intellectual property remained the mainstay of the firm until 1973 when it diversified into the field of corporate law. Effective January 1, 1990 the practice of Sagar & Company, Barristers and Solicitors, was incorporated into the practice of "Remfry & Son," whereupon the name of the firm was changed to "Remfry & Sagar," Attorneys-at-Law.
The firm has a predominantly international clientele.
In the field of IP, the firm's long-standing membership in international fora such as INTA, AIPPI, ECTA and APAA enables it to keep in close contact with the international community's views providing it with valuable input and direction for furthering client's objectives in India.
In the field of corporate law, the firm has a deep reservoir of experience, especially in dealing with continental Europe. Its members represent clients on the Boards of Directors of a large number of companies. By virtue of its traditional close contacts with, and representation in various countries worldwide, the firm is well equipped to provide services globally, particularly in South and South East Asia and the Middle East.
The firm has 75 professionals and 125 support staff (including paralegals). The Patents & Designs Group is staffed by specialists in areas of pharma, chemical, biotechnology, computer, electronics and mechanical engineering.
The firm's principal office is located in Gurgaon, part of the New Delhi National Capital Region (an area comprising Delhi, New Delhi and surrounding satellite towns). Gurgaon today is a burgeoning commercial hub and much sought after home to several top Indian and multi-national companies. Remfry & Sagar occupies in the Remfry House (part of a well laid out office complex), 40,000 plus sq. feet (3700 sq. meters) of office space.
