Richard has extensive experience in the area of environmental law, including federal, state and local licensing and permitting of various major commercial and industrial facilities; Brownfields site remediation and redevelopment; matters involving air pollution, water pollution, land use planning and development; freshwater and coastal wetlands; historic preservation; hazardous waste and solid waste disposal; and regulatory compliance, litigation and enforcement. Richard also advises clients on the environmental aspects of mergers, acquisitions, disposition of assets and financings. Richard is a fellow of the American College of Environmental Lawyers and is listed in the Environmental Law section of The Best Lawyers In America.
Richard's clients include national, regional and local businesses, industries and individuals, and he advises these clients on a myriad of environmental planning, permitting and enforcement matters, including representing them before federal and state courts and regulatory agencies.
•Richard represented the responsible party in connection with natural resources damages assessment, remediation and litigation arising out of a major oil spill off the coast of Rhode Island.
•Richard was involved in the representation of a client in the licensing, permitting, construction, financing and operations matters of a combined cycle 500 MW electric generating facility.
•He was involved in the representation of a client in the ownership and operation of the largest municipal/commercial solid waste landfill in Rhode Island.
•He has represented a client in the licensing and permitting of a 1500-slip marina/waterfront recreational facility.
•Richard represented a client in the investigation and remediation of a former steel manufacturing site and the redevelopment of the site for mixed commercial and residential use.

A team of Edwards Wildman attorneys represented Lucas-Milhaupt Warwick LLC in the acquisition of Wolverine Joining Technologies LLC, a manufacturer of brazing and soldering products with its principal facility located in Warwick, Rhode Island. The team provided comprehensive environmental and real estate services in the negotiation and closing on April 26, 2013 of the $60 million acquisition.

An Edwards Wildman team of attorneys advised the sole shareholder of Micronics, Inc., a New Hampshire, USA- and Stoke-on-Trent, England-based manufacturer of filtration products and equipment used in mining, water treatment and food and beverage industries, in a March 28, 2013 sale of his stock to an entity formed by Vance Street Capital, a Los Angeles-based private equity firm.
