Richard D. Lyons is a lifelong resident of Arizona. Throughout his career, Richard has represented the families of people catastrophically injured or killed by the negligence of others.
Richard’s first notable case involved a physician’s failure to detect that a mass in his client’s lung was growing, which led to an incorrect diagnosis of valley fever. Aggressive litigation led to a significant settlement before his client’s untimely and tragic death from metastatic lung cancer. Since that experience, Richard has devoted a significant portion of his practice to litigating complex medical malpractice cases. He has litigated cases involving birth trauma, neurosurgery, heart surgery, vascular surgery, orthopedic surgery, emergency medicine, podiatry, nursing care, PACU and ICU care, failure to refer for specialty care, failure to diagnose curable conditions, and negligent hospital administration.
Over the years, Richard has successfully litigated a wide variety of other catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases. They include nursing home abuse, teacher/student sexual abuse, civil rights violations, motor vehicle and motorcycle accidents, product liability, and premises liability. Richard has a particular interest and focus on cases involving brain injuries.
Richard is a member of the State Bar of Arizona and the Maricopa County Bar Association. He is also a member of the Arizona Association for Justice and the American Association for Justice, where he is a member of the Civil Rights Section, the Motorcycle Litigation Group, and the Traumatic Brain Injury Litigation Group. Richard’s most rewarding service comes through his membership with the Brain Injury Alliance of Arizona, which provides invaluable services and education for those afflicted with traumatic brain injuries and their families.
When he is not at his office or in a courtroom, Richard enjoys spending time scuba diving, hiking, camping, and traveling with his wife Darlene and their baby boy
