Rich is a member in Mintz Levin's Boston office, and leads the firm's Public Finance Section. He primarily represents mutual funds, indenture trustees, hedge funds, and insurance companies in tax-exempt bond transactions, focusing in the area of high-yield securities in both workout and new money transactions. His expertise encompasses numerous sectors, including senior living, health care, multi-family housing, assessment districts, charter schools, solid waste disposal, and hospitality facilities. Rich also counsels end users of derivative products. Rich was the recipient of the National Federation of Municipal Analysts' (NFMA) Meritorious Service Award in 2006, in recognition of his long service in education and advocacy for the buy side of the high-yield market. He is a frequent panelist on topics concerning distressed bonds and tax-exempt finance. In 2011, he was recognized as a Massachusetts Super Lawyer in a special supplement published by Boston Magazine. Rich's recent professional accomplishments include representing: · Four indenture trustees for over $500 million in bonds affected by the bankruptcy of a major CCRC developer · Indenture trustees and bondholders in the default and workout of several charter schools located throughout the country · A group of bondholders in the default and workout of a Florida community development district · The indenture trustee in the default and workout of a portfolio of multi-family properties in Texas · A holder of over $400 million in illiquid auction rate securities in pursuing recovery Rich is admitted to practice in Massachusetts. He received his undergraduate degree from Brown University (1980), where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School (1985).
