Rick's practice focuses on representing corporate clients in complex litigation in federal and state courts. He has significant experience defending companies in wage and hour class actions, litigating trade secret and employee mobility issues, whistleblower claims, public access/disability claims, and advising companies regarding Affordable Care Act employment issues.
Rick has been praised for his creative and strategic thinking and business-minded approach to problem-solving and litigation. He has successfully represented clients in class actions and individual suits involving claims for overtime, misclassification, failure to provide meal and rest periods, unfair competition, misappropriation of trade secrets, violation of the Consumer Legal Remedies Act, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, fraud, and defamation.
Rick testified before Congress concerning the impact of the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in Garcetti v. Ceballos. He lectures to management groups and conducts workshops for corporate counsel regarding compliance with California and federal laws. He also develops, reviews, and implements personnel policies for local, national, and international companies.
Rick regularly contributes articles regarding developments in employment law to local and national publications covering California minimum wage and employment legislation and California employee mobility/theft of trade secrets issues.
Rick is a member of the Pepperdine University Alumni Association and the Labor and Employment Law Section of the San Diego County Bar Association.
