Richard L. Abramson has enjoyed a distinguished career with substantial success in highly complex litigations and arbitrations, particularly in the area of major construction industry disputes. He has also resolved several complex multiparty disputes through negotiation, mediation and other alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. Mr. Abramson has successfully handled numerous cases in the state and federal courts of New York and New Jersey and in other states on a pro hac basis, as well as in the United States Court of Federal Claims and before international and domestic arbitration tribunals. Most notably, he has obtained recoveries in two matters on behalf of general contractors against agencies of the United States Government totaling in excess of $40 million and a recovery on behalf of a general contractor against a foreign power authority in excess of $100 million. Recently, he has succeeded in defeating serious claims asserted by a prominent pharmaceutical company against an international design firm totaling $20 million and was even able to obtain an affirmative recovery in excess of $4 million on behalf of the design firm. He has also successfully defended a large number of general contractors with respect to subcontractor claims totaling, in many cases, more than $5 million. In addition to representing companies in the construction industry, he has tried cases on behalf of banking institutions, retail companies, manufacturing companies and real estate developers. He has served as lead counsel in more than 30 cases that have been tried to conclusion, at least 20 of which have been jury trials. Mr. Abramson is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, the United States Court of Federal Claims, the United States District Court for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York and the District of New Jersey as well as the courts of the State of New York and the State of New Jersey. He is a certified mediator for the United States District Court of New Jersey. Mr. Abramson has been recognized by New York and New Jersey Super Lawyers as well as Best Lawyers in America for Constructions Law. He is a member of the Bergen County and the New Jersey State Bar Association. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin at Madison and Brooklyn Law School, where he was editor of the Brooklyn Law Review. |
