Robert Baptista is a highly regarded corporate lawyer and a leading practitioner in the area of finance law on behalf of both lender and borrower clients. According to Chambers USA 2012, Rob is “an incredibly smart lawyer who knows exactly what the market precedents are.” Chambers USA 2007 characterized him as fabulous and solution-oriented . . . [and] up in the stratosphere when compared to the great majority of US finance lawyers. Previously (2006), Chambers noted that [Rob Baptista’s] ability 'not to over-lawyer, just to get the transaction done,' delights clients and inspires the respect of contemporaries.
Rob negotiates and documents complex syndicated financing transactions for borrowers and lenders, including leveraged buyouts, tender offer financings, multi-jurisdictional transactions, debt restructurings and other financing arrangements. In the context of corporate law, he sustains a particular focus on acquisitions, mergers and joint venture agreements, sale agreements, and long-term production and licensing arrangements.
Prior to joining Mayer Brown in 1983, Rob served as Judicial Clerk to The Honorable R. Lanier Anderson III, US Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit. In 2006, Rob was named by Chambers & Partners as the first recipient of the Chambers Award for Excellence in banking and finance (USA).
