Robert Gilliland is a veteran trial lawyer whose practice concentrates in the area of business litigation in both state and federal courts, including oil and gas litigation, environmental litigation, products liability and securities litigation. He is a frequent lecturer on various legal topics at trial advocacy seminars. Robert's publications/presentations include "Dealing With Aggressive Deposition Tactics" (Oklahoma Bar Association, 1988); "Selection of the Jury - A Lost Art" (Oklahoma County Bar Association, 1989); "A Winning Opening Statement: First Impressions Last," (Oklahoma County Bar Association, 1990); "Closing Argument - The Last Word" (Oklahoma County Bar Association, 1991); Oklahoma Products Liability Forum, "Discovery and Admissibility of Evidence of Similar Accidents and Injuries in a Products Case" (1992); "The Juror," American Inn of Court (1998). Following his admission to the Oklahoma Bar, Robert served four years as a captain in the Judge Advocate General's Corps of the U.S. Army. Robert holds the distinction of being one of only a handful of lawyers in the United States to be selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America (bet-the-company litigation, commercial litigation, energy law, environmental litigation, real estate litigation, securities litigation) in every year of the publication's existence, spanning more than 20 years. He has also been perennially named to Oklahoma Super Lawyers (business litigation). Representative Experience · Lead counsel defending lessees and operators in class action and multi-party cases where the plaintiffs alleged improper post-production charges were made. · Representation of oil and gas operators in numerous "take or pay" cases alleging breach of contract against pipeline purchasers. Three of these trials lasted as long as six weeks and resulted in successfully obtaining judgments of $50 million, $8 million and $7 million on behalf of our clients. · Representation of drilling contractors and equipment suppliers as a result of blowouts of wells resulting in loss of life, injury and significant property damage. · Defense of oil and gas operators in lawsuits alleging environmental and surface damages. · Chief counsel for the plaintiff in a case in which the largest verdict in state court history at the time was returned by the jury. · Represented a defendant in the first class action environmental action where the defendant purchased plaintiffs' property in settlement of the litigation.
