Biography

An AV rated trial lawyer, Robert Greer is certified by the State Bar of Arizona as a specialist in wrongful death and personal injury litigation and has been since 1988. He is a founding partner of Baird Williams & Greer, LLP. Before that, he was a partner for nine years with a national law firm specializing in aviation litigation. Earlier in his career, he worked for a major property and casualty insurer as litigation counsel and managing attorney. He is a fourth generation lawyer in Arizona.

Mr. Greer has been lead counsel in more than 87 jury trials and litigation in areas of personal injuries, insurance coverage and bad faith, aircraft design and maintenance, pilot error, claims against governments, consumer product design, highway design, professional liability, bus and rental vehicle accidents, and dram shop litigation.

Representative cases tried to juries with amounts in controversy or verdicts in excess of $1,000,000 include:

Severe burns to children from a fire with allegations of defective design of a household stove.

Multiple passengers with disabling orthopedic injuries from a tour plane crash with allegations of maintenance negligence and pilot error.

Bad faith claims arising from denial of coverage under a directors and officers policy of insurance, with punitive damages.

Crash of a logging helicopter with allegations of negligent inspection and engine overhaul.

Wrongful death in a fiery crash of a helicopter which struck power lines, with allegations of pilot error.

Near amputation from consumer-altered garden power tool.

Crash of a medical evacuation helicopter resulting in two deaths, with allegations of pilot error and punitive damages.

Trucking accident with one death and severe injuries to two others with allegations of negligent oversight and punitive damages.

Helicopter crash from fuel starvation, involving injuries to three with allegations of defective design and manufacture.

Neck injuries from falling baggage during a commercial airline flight.

Burns to family arising from negligent installation of a propane gas system and heater.

Mr. Greer has extensive experience in appeals. Reported decisions include Cook v Orkin Exterminating Co., 258 P.3d 149 (Ariz. App. 2011) (applying economic loss rule to pest control contract), State Farm Insurance v Premier Manufactured Systems, 172 P.3d 410 (Ariz. 2007) (applying comparative fault principles in products liability actions), Adiutori v. Sky Harbor Intl. Airport, 880 F. Supp. 696 (D.Ariz. 1995) aff'd in table form, 103 F.3d 107 (9th Cir. 1996) (Americans with Disabilities Act as applied to airport transportation system); Law v. Superior Court of Arizona, 755 P.2.d 1135 (Ariz. 1988) (adopting seat belt defense in Arizona); Broadbent. v. Broadbent, 907 P.2d 43 (Ariz. 1995) (abolishing parental immunity in Arizona), Garcia v. General Motors, 990 P.2d 1069 (Ariz. App. 1999) (seat belt defense in conflicts between state laws).
