Mr. Slovek concentrates in complex litigation, including health care issues, insurance-related disputes, professional negligence, products liability with a focus on food contamination, personal injury actions, toxic tort litigation, contract disputes and commercial transactions. He has served as lead counsel in numerous bench and jury trials.
Mr. Slovek has experience managing and overseeing cases in nearly all 50 states. He served as Regional Counsel for one of the largest clinical laboratories in the United States, defending professional negligence claims, an engagement that continued for over a decade and involved 100-plus cases. For more than 25 years he has continuously defended medical professionals against claims of malpractice in multiple jurisdictions. In addition, he has served as first-chair trial counsel in complex litigation involving forensic engineering following an explosion at a large manufacturing facility that caused multiple injuries, resulting in two deaths and millions of dollars in property damage. Mr. Slovek has handled a wide variety of products claims, from the routine to the complex.

February 10, 2012 Downer Livestock Once Again Focus The Supreme Court overturned a California law that required so-called downer or non-ambulatory animals to be immediately euthanized and held out of the food supply. In its decision, the United States Supreme Court held that the Federal Meat Inspection Act's express preemption provision prohibits states from imposing requirements on federally inspected slaughterhouses that are additional or different from the provisions of the Federal Meat Inspection Act, even if the requirements do not conflict.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA), enacted in 2010, mandates that Medicare/Medicaid-certified nursing facilities and skilled nursing facilities have an effective compliance plan in place by March 23, 2013. ACA states that [by March 23, 2013], a facility shall ... have in operation a compliance and ethics program that is effective in preventing and detecting criminal, civil, and administrative violations ... and in promoting quality of care.
