Overview

Robert Goldman, a Director, has practiced 22 years in tax and estate planning, concentrating on sophisticated wealth transfer strategies and advising donors to charities and charitable organizations. He is a founder of Philanthropic Advisors LLC, a Goulston &Storrs subsidiary that advises family foundations on strategic philanthropy. Robert also serves professionally as Trustee of many clients' estate planning trusts.

ˇ Drafting of wills and trusts for wealthy families who want their estate plan to enhance their children's inheritance, protect it from loss to creditors, and reflect the family's values toward money, family and charity.

ˇ Tax planning for client's wealth and for business and charitable transactions, including retirement benefit planning, the creation of grantor retained annuity trusts, intra-family sales of assets, family buy-sell agreements, qualified personal residence trusts and other planning for the preservation of family residences, and charitable remainder trusts.

ˇ Estate administration involving efficient probate of estates, creative use of disclaimers, use of post-death tax elections, pragmatic resolution of controversies and litigation, and successful representation at tax audits.

ˇ Trust and tax planning for the ownership and funding of complicated life insurance policies.

ˇ Creation of family foundations and thoughtful discussion of their alternatives, including public charities, operating foundations and supporting organizations.

ˇ Creation of public charitable organizations focusing on the arts, medical care, education and social services, including several "American Friends" organizations that support global charitable activities.

ˇ Ongoing advisor to Oxfam America, YouthBuild USA, Boston-based medical centers and universities, and client-supported charities with respect to compliance with federal and state regulation of tax-exempt organizations and endowments, and also regarding the solicitation and implementation of split-interest gifts and other planned giving vehicles.
