Roger Cook focuses his practice on patent infringement litigation and licensing, particularly in semiconductor, computer and telecommunications technologies. In patent litigation, Mr. Cook represents both plaintiffs and defendants, in both trials and appeals. His cases have involved many different technologies including semiconductor device physics and processing, microprocessors, power transistors, memory devices, lasers, electronics, computers, software and telecommunications. Mr. Cook is an adjunct professor at both the University of California Hastings College of Law (Fall Semester) and the University of San Francisco School of Law (Spring Semester). He has been a frequent speaker at bar association and educational seminars around the country on various topics relating to patent infringement litigation. Client Milestones In 2008, defeated International Rectifier's patent for alleged invention of the power MOSFET. Prior to this decision, the power transistor segment of the semiconductor industry had paid over one hundred million royalty dollars for licenses under this patent. International Rectifier v. IXYS, 515 F.3d 1353 (Fed. Cir. 2008). In 2005, successfully defended and settled Patriot Scientific's claim that Charles Moore was not a co-inventor, and that Charles Moore and Technology Properties Limited were not co-owners of the Moore Microprocessor Patent (MMP) portfolio. In 1997, defeated Harris Corporation's patent for alleged invention of the insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT). Harris Corporation v. IXYS, 114 F 3d 1149 (Fed. Cir. 1997). In 1993, successfully concluded Grid v. Texas Instruments by demonstrating that Texas Instruments' patent for alleged invention of the microprocessor was invalid, and that the patented invention had been copied from Intel. In 1985, won jury verdict for Gordon Gould, inventor of the laser, in Gould v. Cooper Lasersonics.
