Biography

Ronald M. DeHaan has been engaged in the practice of law since 1967. Mr. DeHaan renders legal services for members of the construction industry in documentation, contract enforcement, and construction crisis legal management. He advises closely held corporations and their shareholders, financial institutions, and other midsize businesses. In his work with financial institutions, Mr. DeHaan has experience in the initiation of financial institutions, documentation of loan transactions, regulatory matters including personnel and employment issues, loan work-outs and collections, fidelity bonds, and directors’ and officers’ and lender liability matters. He co-authored the Collateral Loan Documentation Handbook, a guide to commercial loan documentation, and “Overview of the RICO Act as Applied to Financial Institutions,” which appeared in the 1987, 1988, and 1993 Illinois Continuing Legal Education publication, Advising Illinois Financial Institutions. As a faculty member at the Illinois Bankers Association school for bankers, he has lectured on construction loans and other credit facilities to business organizations and work-outs. Mr. DeHaan has been engaged by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and Resolution Trust Corporation (RTC) in the liquidation of financial institutions and their assets and litigation pertaining to directors’ and officers’ liability and blanket bond insurance. Mr. DeHaan is involved in corporate organization, operation, and employment matters, including Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Illinois Department of Human Rights (IDHR), and Chicago Department of Human Rights (CDHR) claims. His practice includes mechanics lien matters, and regulatory matters, contract documentation, litigation, and arbitration. He participates in seminars on enforcement of construction remedies, commercial lending, alternatives involved in real estate lending work-outs, Regulation Z Consumer Lending, and financial institution regulatory compliance.
