History: Ryan Smith & Carbine, Ltd. ("RS&C") is one of the oldest and largest law firms providing legal services in Vermont and eastern New York. The firm traces its roots to December, 1945, when the death of Major General Leonard F. Wing terminated the existence of Fenton, Wing & Morse, a partnership in existence in Rutland, Vermont, since 1922. On January 1, 1946, the surviving partners Charles F. Ryan, R. Clarke Smith and John D. Carbine associated themselves as Ryan Smith & Carbine. Our attorneys have served the region in a full range of legal representation for generations.

Members have served and are serving on the Boards of Directors of regional banks, corporations and business enterprises.
