Gonzaga
University School of Law belongs to a long and distinguished tradition of
humanistic, Catholic, and Jesuit education. It is an integral part of Gonzaga University which was founded in 1887.
The School of Law continues to maintain the tradition
of academic excellence in education, which is the heart of the mission of the
400-year-old Jesuit order. The School
of Law, which is accredited by the
American Bar Association and a member of the Association of American Law
Schools, is located on the bank of the Spokane River.
This riverside setting provides a stunning atmosphere for research and
learning.
The School of Lawâ??s 550 students bring a rich mixture
of backgrounds and perspectives to their legal studies. Each fall approximately
175 entering scholars from across the nation are met by a talented and
dedicated law faculty. The faculty share a commitment
to teaching excellence and scholastic endeavors, and are readily accessible to
the students on a personal and professional level.
For more
than two decades, Gonzaga law students have contributed to the development of
the law through scholarly criticism and analysis in the highly regarded Gonzaga
Law Review. Gonzagaâ??s International Law Journal, an online law review, was
created in 1999 to serve the international community. Gonzagaâ??s moot court
teams have a long-standing reputation for excellence.
A
pro-active Career Services office assists students in their professional job
search and in finding internships during law school. Each year law firms,
government agencies, and businesses conduct on-campus interviews. Supported by
a state work-study program, intern experiences are financially and
educationally profitable for the law students and their employers. Rule 9 of Washington State
law enhances the educational value of these internships by providing third-year
students the opportunity to try cases in Washington
courts.
At
Gonzaga, students have an opportunity to construct a personal framework upon
which to build a productive future legal career--a framework based on a
foundation of a solid theoretical curriculum and extensive practical experience
gained through the Schoolof Lawâ??s award-winning,
multi-faceted clinical program and community internship program. Appropriate to
its Inland Northwest setting, the Schoolof Law offers many
courses that address natural resource issues. Other outstanding features of the
curriculum include an intensive two-year legal research and writing program,
private and public sector labor law courses, and joint JD/MBA, JD/MACC, and
JD/MSW degree programs.
The law library plays an integral role in the educational
pursuits of the students by sustaining and supporting the curriculum, and
student and faculty instructional and research needs. Students have access to
an array of software applications and databases, including LexisNexis and WESTLAW.
The legal
training and experience provided to Gonzaga students has facilitated their
success in finding employment in a wide variety of legal positions throughout
the United States
and internationally. Other graduates have gone on to play key roles in the
judiciary, business, politics, and public service.
