Penn State Universityâ??s Dickinson School of Law enjoys a diverse
and academically talented student body and a faculty befitting Penn Stateâ??s
reputation as one of the worldâ??s great research universities. Faculty members
include one of the nationâ??s leading scholars of corporate mergers and
acquisitions, the worldâ??s preeminent expert of Russian law, leading scholars of
commercial arbitration, renowned scholars of antitrust and law and economics,
former law clerks to United States Supreme Court Justices, a leading scholar of
international banking and finance, the first legal counsel to the African Union,
the legal counsel to the Greek Presidency of the European Union, and other
active and influential teachers and scholars in a wide range of substantive
areas. In recognition of the important role that a law school plays in a great
university, Penn State
is investing more than $125 million in new signature buildings and programs for
the Law School (occupancy in December 2008).
This commitment is the largest single investment ever in an academic unit of Penn State.
The law
schoolâ??s curriculum also includes a wide range of experiential learning
opportunities, including semester-long government agency externships in Washington, D.C.,
and clinics that focus on child advocacy, immigration rights, appellate civil
rights litigation, disability law, elder and consumer protection law, and
family law. Additional substantive programs include a Center for the Study of
Mergers and Acquisitions, an Institute for Sports Law, Policy, and Research,
and an Instituteof ArbitrationLaw and Practice. Clinical professors include the
former Deputy Director of the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and the former Deputy Director of the National
Immigration Rights Forum.
The law
schoolâ??s unique association with Penn Stateâ??s new graduate School
of International Affairs enables it to
offer courses by former ambassadors to United Nations,
Peru, Thailand, and other nations, and by scholars of China, the Middle East,
energy geopolitics and military and security affairs. The law school offers
student exchange programs with the University
of Cape Town,
the University ofMaastricht, and other top
foreign law schools. The law school also offers one of the oldest and most
prestigious master of laws programs for
foreign-trained lawyers. Since 1968, students from approximately 50 different
nations have earned LL.M. degrees from Penn State Dickinson.
