Shawn P. Hammond has been a practicing attorney since 1996 and focuses primarily on military domestic law, child custody and criminal law through his general practice.
Prior to the practice of law Mr. Hammond's life focused around many eclectic military experiences. As a child, Mr. Hammond was a military dependent and lived at several different military postings including Germany. As an enlisted soldier from 1985-1988, Mr. Hammond was stationed in the Republic of Panama and was regularly deployed with units of the 193rd Infantry Brigade (Light). During this period he was assigned to Task Force Janus and participated in the U.S. led drug raids in the Republic of Bolivia. Prior to law school, Mr. Hammond was commissioned as an Infantry Officer through R.O.T.C. in the U.S. Army Reserves. After law school Mr. Hammond participated in an externship program at the United States Court of Appeals for the District of the Armed Forces in Washington D.C.
Mr. Hammond is also a strong proponent for the rights of children, fathers and grandparents. As a single father with custody of his three young boys and as a former attorney for the local domestic violence women's shelter, Mr. Hammond is able to combine the law with his life experiences to assist in difficult custody cases. Furthermore, Mr. Hammond is regularly consulted by other attorneys on issues relating to divorce, custody, and other domestic relations matters.
