Practice/Industry Group Overview The Arbitration and International Dispute Resolution Group at Shin & Kim is headed by veteran lawyers with extensive experience as arbitrators, former judges, and arbitration experts. Shin & Kim lawyers have also frequently acted as both independent and party-appointed arbitrators as members of the Korea Commercial Arbitration Board and the Creditor Financial Institution Arbitration Committee.
Shin & Kim's ADR Group has represented clients internationally before various arbitral institutions, including the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce, the London Court of International Arbitration, the Singapore International Arbitration Centre and the Korean Commercial Arbitration Board. Shin & Kim's ADR Group has participated in arbitrations in an expansive range of industries, including construction, electronics, manufacturing, oil and gas, power generation, telecommunications, and utilities, as well as all forms of complex corporate transactions, commercial contracts, intellectual property, regulatory matters and cross-border disputes involving private parties or sovereign states.
The ADR Group advises and represents clients with respect to all aspects of the arbitration process, from negotiations prior to formal proceedings, to the conduct of arbitration hearings. to judicial proceedings related to the enforcement of interim and final awards. The ADR Group works closely with the Litigation Group to conduct parallel actions before Korean courts on various issues, including procedural and jurisdictional matters, as well as follow-up court actions to enforce or oppose the enforcement of arbitral awards.

Unfair supprot for Samsung Group affiliates, Shin & Kim represented Samsung Group in the litigation involving Samsung Group and various creditors of Samsung Motors (at more than US$4 billion, this is the largest lawsuit in Korean history), July 1, 2007 Case of Carl Icahn's nomination of an external director of KT&G, Shin & Kim represented KT&G in the litigation involving KT&G and a minority investor group including Warren Lichtenstein and Carl Icahn; This was a key decision in the development of Korean corporate governance and minority rights/hostile takeovers., February 24, 2006 Multilateral Shipbuilding Agreement under the OECD, Shin & Kim participated as legal experts in the negotiations for the Multilateral Shipbuilding Agreement organized by the OECD that continued from around 1990 to 1995 among the shipbuilding nations including Korea, Japan, United States and European countries. Shin & Kim was also involved in the making of domestic legislation (i.e., the Act on Reasonable Competitive Conditions of Shipbuilding Industry) for the implementation of the Multilateral Shipbuilding Agreement. Representing the Korean Government and the Korea Shipbuilders' Association, Shin & Kim participated in the negotiations for 2002 ¿ 2005 new shipbuilding agreement initiated by the OECD., June 30, 2005
