Biography

Siobhan M. Sweeney practices in the Litigation Management Group, where she focuses in the area of employment litigation defense and manages the regional portfolio of single plaintiff employment lawsuits filed against a major financial institution.

Siobhan's litigation experience includes the defense of private employers in a variety of employment disputes, including claims of discrimination, retaliation, breach of contract, defamation and wrongful termination, and the defense of benefits and wage and hour cases. Siobhan litigates claims in state and federal courts and administrative agencies throughout the Northeast region. She has broad experience in counseling employers in all aspects of the employment relationship and has acted as an outside investigator and advisor in relation to internal claims of harassment, discrimination and retaliation.

• She recently obtained dismissal of claims of race discrimination brought in New York Supreme Court against a large financial institution.

• She recently obtained summary judgment in federal court in Connecticut in favor of a major financial institution on claims of race discrimination and retaliation brought by a mid-level manager.

• She recently obtained summary judgment in Connecticut Superior Court in favor of an employer on numerous employment and tort claims.

• She recently obtained dismissal of Connecticut FMLA claims brought before the state Department of Labor.

• She obtained summary judgment on a senior manager's breach of contract claim in federal court in the District of Columbia, which was affirmed on appeal.

• She obtained summary judgment on a claim for disability and age discrimination in Pennsylvania, which was affirmed by the Third Circuit.

• She has prevailed at summary judgment on behalf of her employer- clients in numerous cases claims of discrimination, harassment and retaliation, alleged violations of the FMLA and FLSA, breach of contract and various employment torts.

Siobhan has been named as a Massachusetts Super Lawyer (2009) and Massachusetts Rising Star (2005) in the area of Employment & Labor law. She was recently appointed as a member to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights State Advisory Committee for Massachusetts.

Prior to joining the firm, Siobhan worked as an associate for a mid-sized Boston law firm representing employers and employees in all aspects of employment counseling and litigation, including the negotiation of executive employment agreements, noncompetition agreements, and severance agreements and began her career as an associate for a plaintiff's employment and civil rights practice.
