Stephen Furlan

Stephen Furlan is a partner in McCarthy Tétrault's Financial Services Group in Toronto. He carries on a practice focused on project finance and secured lending.

Mr. Furlan regularly advises lenders with respect to project financing transactions. He has acted as lead counsel for lenders on the project financing of power projects and public private partnership infrastructure financings.

Mr. Furlan is listed in the 2008-2009 edition of Chambers Global: The World's Leading Lawyers for Business as a leading lawyer in the area of banking and finance, the 2009 International Financial Law Review 1000 as a leading lawyer in the area of Project Finance, he is listed in the Guide to the World's Leading Project Finance Lawyers and is listed in The Best Lawyers in Canada in the area of Banking Law. He was also named one of the "Top 40 under 40" lawyers in Canada in 2006.

Representative transactions in the past year include:

· lead counsel for the developer on a $170 million public private project financing and development of a bridge over the McKenzie River in the Northwest Territories;

· financing counsel to largest telecom company in the Caribbean in connection with their project financing of Jamaican telecom assets;

· lead counsel for the syndicate of senior lenders on a $450 million loan to a cogeneration project;

· lead counsel for the syndicate of lenders placing a $450 million loan to one of Canada's largest agribusinesses;

· lead counsel for the syndicate of lenders on an exit financing for a leading North American bathroom fixture and spa manufacturer;

· lead counsel for the syndicate of lenders on a $300 million project financing of Canada's largest wind farm;

· lead counsel for a syndicate of lenders on a hospital expansion sponsored by Infrastructure Ontario.
