| Biography | Steven E. Koffs concentrates his practice on intellectual property, with emphasis on patent prosecution, opinions (patent invalidity and non-infringement, right to use and ability to register trademarks), copyright and trade secret protection. Mr. Koffs authored approximately 200 patents and patent applications in various technical areas including but not limited to MPEG systems, pattern recognition, data compression, memory devices, medical monitoring equipment, semiconductor fabrication, building products, and opto-electronics. Mr. Koffs worked out provisions of settlement in patent enforcement litigations and resolved other patent and trademark disputes without litigation. Mr. Koffs has performed detailed analysis of patent validity, infringement and enforceability issues for litigations and counseled clients in assertion of patent portfolios during licensing negotiations. Admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Mr. Koffs is an adjunct professor at Villanova School of Law, where he teaches patent prosecution. He is past chair of the Intellectual Property Law Section of the Pennsylvania Bar Association. Mr. Koffs is a member of the Benjamin Franklin Inn of the American Inns of Court, American Intellectual Property Law Association, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and the Philadelphia Intellectual Property Law Association. He is past chair of a Hearing Committee of the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. Mr. Koffs is a 1987 graduate of Rutgers University School of Law, a graduate of Drexel University, where he received a master's degree, and a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania.
