| Biography | Steve Gevarter chairs the Firm's Tax Practice Group and is a member of the Business Law Practice Group. His more than 35 years of practice includes providing counsel on a wide range of federal and state tax planning and compliance matters for individuals, tax-exempt organizations and business entities, including corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies and statutory trusts. Steve advises clients, accountants and other attorneys on issues involving Maryland taxes, including individual and corporate income taxes, sales and use tax and property taxes. Steve also has extensive experience in business related matters, such as mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, choice of entity and corporate governance. He is a frequent lecturer on a variety of tax topics, including, reasonable compensation, partnership taxation, tax-free exchanges and capital gains planning. Steve earned his J.D., cum laude, from Villanova Law School, his LL.M. (Tax) from the New York University School of Law and his B.A. from Franklin & Marshall College. He was the Case & Comment Editor of the Villanova Law Review and following law school, served as law clerk to Daniel L. Hermann, Chief Justice of the Delaware Supreme Court. Steve is admitted to the bars of the States of Maryland and Delaware. He is a member of the American Bar Association's Section of Taxation and the Maryland State Bar Association's Section of Taxation. Steve is a past Chair of the Baltimore-Ashkelon (Israel) Sister City Partnership, a member of the Board of Directors of The Associated: Jewish Federation of Baltimore and a past President of Jewish Family Services. He is also actively involved with the Baltimore Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America and several other tax-exempt organizations.
