Tevfik Gur graduated from School of Law of Ankara University in 1981. After qualifying in 1984, he started his career at Mersin, which is one of Turkey's major ports and trading centres incorporating a Free Trade Zone and container terminal. During his time there, he has dealt with various cases for the collection of the receivables of foreign companies and banks through amicable settlements or litigation and has reached to a considerable success in various cases. He was one of the founders of the Mersin Maritime Chamber of Commerce and later became their legal counsel. He has been pursuing his career in Istanbul since 1993.
Tevfik Gur handles advocacy and contentious advisory work in the fields of commercial and banking law. Tevfik Gur's practice covers a broad range of work, from banking to debt recovery, receiverships, mergers and acquisitions, and liquidations. In recent years, he has been involved in a large number of domestic and cross-border transactions.
Furthermore, he also acts as the legal counsel to several large land, air and sea transportation companies in Turkey, in handling carriage of goods disputes. In commercial matters, Tevfik Gur is a pioneer in acting for many overseas claimants in the enforcement and recognition of foreign arbitration awards and court judgments in Turkey. Tevfik Gur, also, has a broad experience in maritime law, PÆ insurance matters, international trade, marine casualties and commercial litigation and acts for the major P&I Clubs in members' collisions in the Istanbul and Dardanelle straits. Tevfik Gur, is Vice Chairman of the Turkish American Chamber of Commerce.
